Spicy Spiked Basil Lemonade

Nothing brings me more joy than the smell of basil and a nice, juicy Meyer lemon.  Fresh and fragrant and when combined together- perfecto!

I'm always trying to find a drink, other than wine, that can be a "fun cocktail" without all the calories.  I wish I could be the girl that is happy ordering a vodka soda, but unfortunately I've tried and frankly I'd prefer to not have a drink at all if that is my only option.

I need a little somethin somethin and this drink is definitely my new favorite.  A little sweet, a little spicy and a little buzzy.

Is it weird that I felt "cleansed" while drinking this? It was like the master cleanse gone, well- awesome!

Spiked Spicy Basil Lemonade

Juice of 3 lemons
5-8 basil leaves roughly chopped
1/2 c. water
1-2 packets of stevia (or 2 tbs agave nectar)
2 ounces of vodka
2 shakes of cayenne pepper

Mix together all ingredients into a large mason jar.  Fill the jar with ice and place the lid on top.

Shake the drink up until evenly mixed.

Remove lid, add some lemon slices and garnish with some more basil.

Then (and this is important...) kick your feet up, sit in the backyard and soak up the sunshine with a good book and a healthy snack.
